Career Highlights:

Dr. Sabinah Wanjugu is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the Romain College of Business, University of Southern Indiana. Originally from Kenya, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Kenyatta University in Nairobi. She later completed her Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at Louisiana Tech University. Dr. Wanjugu primarily teaches digital marketing courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, in addition to other marketing courses such as marketing strategies and principles of marketing. Her research interests include consumer privacy, digital marketing models, diffusion of innovation, and cross-cultural marketing. Her work has been published in journals such as the Information and Management Journal, and Journal of Consumer Behaviour and has also presented at several academic conferences.

  • What do you want students to take away from your classes?

    I want my students to gain practical, hands-on experience with real-world marketing tools and strategies. I emphasize the importance of critical thinking, adaptability, and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to solve real business problems. My goal is to prepare students to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of marketing confidently and creatively.

  • Why did you start teaching?

    I started teaching because I am passionate about sharing knowledge and helping others grow. I find immense satisfaction in seeing my students develop their skills and apply them to achieve success. Teaching allows me to connect with future professionals and contribute to shaping the next generation of marketers.

  • What advice would you give to your future online students?

    Stay relevant by keeping up with industry trends. The field of marketing, especially digital marketing, is constantly evolving. To stay ahead, immerse yourself in the latest tools, technologies, and strategies. Attend webinars, read industry blogs, and follow thought leaders. Being proactive in your learning will help you remain competitive and well-prepared for the fast-paced marketing environment.

  • What is the value of a higher degree in the field in which you teach?

    A higher degree in marketing not only provides a deeper understanding of core marketing concepts but also equips students with specialized skills that can be directly applied in the industry. In today’s competitive job market, having advanced knowledge in areas like digital marketing, consumer behavior, and data analytics can set you apart, opening doors to leadership roles and higher-paying positions.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    Contagious: How to Build Word of Mouth in the Digital Age by Jonah Berger. It’s a great read for anyone interested in understanding why certain ideas, products, or campaigns go viral.

    I watch cat videos on YouTube.
