Financial Aid

The first step in applying for financial aid is to file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Your FAFSA must be received by the federal processing center by April 15th each year to be considered for state financial aid as well as federal financial aid. USI's Federal School Code is 001808. You will need an FSA ID to electronically sign your FASFA. If you do not have an FSA ID, you may create one at StudentAid.gov.

Once you are admitted to the program and we receive your FAFSA, you can see the financial aid you qualify for and accept or decline your Direct Student Loan on your myUSI. Admissions

Application for this certificate is streamlined

The University of Southern Indiana's online Post-Master’s Certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration has specific requirements that applicants must meet to enroll. Please read the admission guidelines to ensure you qualify.

  • Master's Degree a completed master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • GPA minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • GMAT or GRE is not required

Admission Requirements:

  • A master’s degree (minimum cumulative GPA 3.0) from an accredited institution
  • A valid Indiana teaching license

Program Requirements:

  • Maintain an average GPA of 3.0 or higher at USI
  • Earn a grade C or better in all required courses in the program

Note: At the conclusion of the program, appropriate content tests are required prior to applying for building-level administrator license.

Application Procedures:

  1. Submit an online application, $40 application fee, and a list of 3 references (names, relation to you and email address). One must be an employment supervisor and the other two must be professional references.
  2. Upload a current resume/curriculum vitae to your application account. The file should be a PDF and use the following naming convention: First Name Last Name MSE resume.pdf (example: Joe Smith MSE resume.pdf).
  3. Submit transcripts to Graduate Studies.
    • Official transcripts are required only from the institution at which your highest degree was earned. Electronic transcripts are preferred and can be emailed from the previous institution to [email protected]
    • Unofficial transcripts from other institutions attended can be submitted via email by the applicant to [email protected]
    • Applicants who wish to seek transfer credit for graduate coursework must submit an official transcript from the institution where that work was completed.

An exploration of theory and practice related to school improvement.  The course includes a focus on school culture, stakeholder communication, and data-driven efforts that constitute models for improving schools as educational organizations.

Identifies common themes in curricular development that apply across all levels. Examines curriculum and learning in relation to student achievement, school improvement, and educational leadership.

The purpose of this course is to explore the concept of equity within the P-12 educational context by exploring the relationship between culture and cognition. The neuroeducation research framework presents the importance of culturally responsive teaching and its impact on the brain. Throughout this course, students will learn how cultural awareness and responsiveness inform educational practices which promote equitable educational opportunities for diverse student populations.

This course provides an overview of the legal framework affecting the organization and administration of public schools, including church-state issues, pupil rights, staff-student relationships, personnel, conditions of employment, teacher organizations, tort liability, school finance, and desegregation.

An overview of school finance with particular attention to building level budgeting and accounting.  The course also focuses on building maintenance and renovation connected to technology, curriculum, and pedagogy.  Student well-being, in the form of effective emergency plans, is also a focus of the course.

An introduction to human resource management with a special emphasis on building-level employment dynamics, creating a positive workplace culture, effectively attending to personnel issues, and keeping a school focused on student learning.

Provides practical experience in the day-to-day activities of the building-level administrator. Intended as a synthesizing capstone for all prior educational leadership course work and field experiences. (Summer 7 weeks; Fall/Spring 16 weeks. One credit per time taken and must be taken 3 consecutive semesters for a total of 3 credit hours.)
