“Teaching an online class is much like directing a movie. As a director anticipates the audience's heartbeat pace, I approach my virtual lessons with the same mindset. I carefully plan the ebb and flow of the class, guiding students through moments of excitement and reflection, much like a director crafts suspense or emotion to capture attention.”

  • Why did you start teaching?

Teaching an online class is much like directing a movie. As a director anticipates the audience's heartbeat pace, I approach my virtual lessons with the same mindset. I carefully plan the ebb and flow of the class, guiding students through moments of excitement and reflection, much like a director crafts suspense or emotion to capture attention.

Just as a filmmaker leverages visuals, sound, and dialogue to immerse the audience, I aim to use my voice, digital tools, and storytelling to draw students into the learning material. The goal is to not just present facts but to invoke curiosity and emotion, making the concepts more relatable and memorable.

In Chinese Opera, I learned the art of emotional timing—knowing when to slow down and allow emotions to linger, and when to accelerate the pace to maintain momentum. These skills directly translate to my online teaching style, where I work to anticipate and influence how students feel at each stage of the lesson. By engaging their emotions, I can make learning more impactful and keep them invested throughout the session.
